Duos für bratsche und violoncello
Created in 2013 by the violist of the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, Cindy Folly, and the cellist, Sub. Cello Professor of Brasília Federal University - UnB , Larissa Mattos, Duo Chordata acts intensely to divulge the rich and unknown chamber music repertoire for viola and cello from the 20th and 21st centuries through concerts and musicological research. It was through Larissa Mattos's research, which originated the book "Duos for viola and cello: A catalog of works and the construction of the sonority in the interpretation", that it was possible to discover more than 570 medium/advanced duos for viola and cello that expanded and improved the dialogical and idiomatic possibilities of this uncommon ensemble, bringing the need to divulge both its repertoire and this instrumental combination.
Possibly Duo Chordata is currently the only permanent brazilian viola and cello duo, most of the works of its repertoire were never presented previously in Brazil, being Duo Chordata responsible for world and national premieres. The Duo Chordata also acts in the important role of encouraging new compositions. Composers such as Brazilians Marco Padilha, Ronaldo Cadeu, Alfredo Votta, Thiago Diniz, Eduardo Escalante, Marco Aurélio Brito Coutinho, Ângelo Martins, the German Holmer Becker, the Irish Derek Ball and the Swedish Peter Schuback dedicated compositions to the Duo. Other composers such as Liduino Pitombeira, Eberhard Eyser, Juan Maria Solare, among others, also composed or adapted works encouraged by the Duo.
They have already performed in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, and had master classes with renowned musicians such as the cellist Romain Garioud, member of the viola and cello Duo Soanea/Garioud. Duo Chordata was also invited to recitals in Italy and Belgium, to be scheduled, and was selected in the category "Destaque - Música Erudita" to integrate the 2017/2018 program at Espaço Cultural BNDES.
